Match report Day 2 narrow loss despite rare-Partridge 50, Shaw seals duck prize

Full of energy, sleep and blood-alcohol, the day 2 team travelled to the lovely St. Fagans for the hastily arranged game against a different Lisvane side. The sofas on the main ground looked particularly inviting but rather teasingly we were dispatched the second ground, where seating arrangements were slightly less salubrious. The batting order arranged, Childs took the bet of hitting a six of the very first ball - he managed a four, but a good effort nonetheless. Dave Shaw sealed the duck prize and the skipper clearly had such a good time with his roommate that he also departed for a duck, ready to get dressed into all of Davies' clothes and bags. Davies played a cultured innings, and nearly got to 50. DP however took up the mantle and a rare orthinology event occurred as Partridge biffed and boshed his way to a glorious 50, Bainsey went all Caribbean in his innings too, leaving the rest of us to get the team to a competitive 170. Tea was "supplied" by M. Childs and arrived just in time, the Burger King order an eye-watering £90.

We were treated to the other Avrili opening the bowling on Day 2. And fine it was, and first ball Ant ran up from the boundary edge! The night-before antics put a rapid stop to that. The clenched-buttocked Godbole opened the other end and bowled a miserly spell. The newly-named Jack Montague (Monty?) bowled tightly also. We were then treated to Hester-spin, and the team may have got caught up in turning his 3 wickets to 5 as suddenly Lisvane looked well ahead of the run rate, despite being well behind at halfway. Kdog got mysteriously injured in his only over. We can only blame his trainers. Even Dave Shaw got a bowl, a reward for his tireless/tired work in the outfield, but Lisvane managed a last-over victory. Hester definitely didn't drop the match in the 35th over.

Big thanks to Sparkle for providing drinks-time ice cream, James W for getting scorers arm sunburn and Lisvane for arranging a game at short notice at a lovely venue. Drinks were taken at the Plymouth Arms before Cardiff once again had to suffer karaoke fun by the singers of the group. History was made in the evening not by Emma Raducanu winning the US Open, but by James Scott that day for breaking the Minibus to Hotel landspeed record. The books will record Raducanu, but we know who the real history maker was that day.
