3 WINS IN A ROW FOR SUNDAY CROWS

26 Jul 2010

Crows' Sunday team put on a fine team display to beat a spirited Bedfont team at New Ground.

After the winning the toss and electing to field, Monty and Red Barron opened the bowling with tight spells, each bowling their permitted 8 overs and picking up a wicket apiece. Fluffer and Jukey then picked up the baton and, despite bowling slightly more erratically, also picked up a wicket (although Fluffer didn't actually realise he'd taken one, stifling his appeal for caught behind and turning round to agree with the umpire, only to see the batsman walking - top marks to the batsman for playing in the correct spirit).

Kahuhna, Sean and Kiwi (who sustained a nasty injury when Red Barron opened fire with a vicious throw at the stumps, only to find Pete's wrist) kept the run rate down, despite Bedfont's best efforts to hit out towards the end, before skipper Shaw came on to bowl the last over - and was promptly carted into the picturesque boundaries for fifteen!

Replying to Bedfont's total of 158-5, the Red Barron continued his blistering form, hitting a sublime half-century before retiring hurt. He was ably supported by Howard, who almost saw Crows home, before being caught one agonising run short of a deserved fifty. Brendywendy made a plucky 19 not out, but it was Dave who came in to steal the glory, dispatching the ball over the ropes for six to see his side to a nine wicket victory.

Many thanks to Bedfont for providing the best sportsmanship and culinary-related banter (referring to Howard's batting - "He's hardly a Michelin starred restaurant...more of a Little Chef") we've seen and heard all season.
