Wiley Coyotes Desecrate Wargrave In Finch Tournament

31 May 2021

The Coyotes lined up in their first tournament of the summer at a sun-bathed Finchampstead Park on Sunday morning.  They competed in a four team round robin featuring Slough CC, Wargrave CC and the hosts Finch.

The Coyotes started brightly against Slough following a rousing team-talk from the skipper. Winning the toss and putting the opposition in, they applied pressure from the outset with some very tidy bowling and lively fielding.   This great start saw three early wickets fall and controlled the run rate.  Slough fought back, though, with some big hitting towards the end of their innings.  Crows’ strong response with the bat forced a tight finish but Slough produced some impressive bowling and fielding at the death to hold on for the win.

This early setback only fueled the Coyotes sprit and determination when facing Wargrave in match two.  Winning the toss again, the Coyotes took to the field, bowled superbly and took some blinding catches.  They then built on their previous experiences with the bat, losing only two wickets in an intelligent and controlled run-chase.  This win against an accomplished rival felt like a watershed moment for the Coyotes squad and was greeted with jubilant scenes and joyous sounds that echoed around the ground.

A rampant closing performance against an under-strength Finch outfit completed a great day for the Coyotes, as they recorded a comfortable 36 run victory.  Crows finished second in the overall tournament ranking with the same number of points as the deserving winners, Slough.

Many thanks go to Finchampsted CC for hosting a fantastic tournament, which was enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
