Match report Gorgeous sunshine and a pitch you could hardly see was the setting greeted by the arriving ONES side, eager to get their season started with a bang. On a day where you wouldn’t mind doing either, W.P. Avrili expertly lost the toss and we were asked to bat.

A new opening stand of the skipper himself and A. Cluett to kick us underway against some tricky bowling both seaming and swinging all over the shop. Skip gone early. DC at the crease. Some hard graft got us to 20 overs only 1 down with the ball behaving in a more normal fashion. A. Cluett fell, caught behind which then saw the middle order come and go until G. Kruger and DC started to build a partnership. The score was building, with the two at the crease keeping out the good balls and punishing the bad ones (as well as some assistance from a below par fielding and catching display). Kruger fell for a well made 20 odd with DC reaching his 50 in the process. Some lower order cameos, especially J. Cluett who took a fancy to the opening bowler coming back at the death, got us to good score of 170 all out.

After a half decent tea, normal service resumed with J. Cluett and S. Chandran taking the new nut. Runs were hard to come by, but so were wickets with false shots finding the gaps and dropping close to fielders. After a few close calls, the Cluett’s combined to remove batsman no 2, caught 1st slip. Sin unlucky not to take a wicket ended with 4 maidens under his belt with nothing going off the square from his 9 overs. This brought the star of the show to centre stage. A wicket with his first ball set the tone for the first 5fer of the season from O. Taylor picking up wickets at regular intervals to keep our foot well and truly on their throats. C. Emes aptly supporting from the other end, unlucky to only take the 1 wicket in his return to the bowling line up. This left the hosts in a spot of bother, and smelling blood in the water Kdog and The Colonel cleaned up the tail for a convincing 74 run win, with the skipper racking up 5 dismissals in the process.

A great way to start the season, setting the tone for what’s to come. League champions in-bound!
