Match report CROWS 2'S LOSE TO SHINFIELD IN SUN-DRENCHED PRE-SEASON OPENER

Crows 2nd XI took on Shinfield in a pre-season friendly at the picturesque Recreation Ground. Bowling first, unsurprisingly, there were a few signs of rustiness and lack of meaningful practice from the Crows 7-pronged attack and some fielding that could best be described as "could do better". Shinfield ticked along very nicely on a good deck and fast outfield. A mammoth score looked on the cards with 10 overs left, but superb death bowling from the evergreen Ravi Godbole and a rapidly maturing Peter "Question TIme" Emes meant the task facing the Crows batsmen was far less imposing than it may have been.

A pleasant tea break in the sun, reminded the Crows group how much they had missed the sport that all love in one way or another.

In response, the skipper and perennial opening stalwart Nash got the visitors off to a steady start but a flurry of wickets halted the progress and the target got out of realistic site as a result. Ravi Godbole had other ideas and played magnificently for a 51-ball 63 including 3 sixes into the allotments and put on 43 with RP Hester for the 7th wicket. When Godbole departed it left the young guns of Luke Taylor and Peter Emes to get some bating practice. Both playing very nicely and getting some much needed time in the middle.

In the end the result was largely insignificant, with match practice the main positive.

Thanks to Shinfield for being great hosts and playing the game in the right spirit. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all and it was great to seeso many of the team head back to St Sebs for a drink and to hear Dave talk about his catch.
