Match report 3rds lose on return to Greta Hollands

New year, New Season, new pavilion, same standard of pitch down at Great Hollands. Falkland went out to bat first through sunshine , hail and rain , and also against the Crows bowling attack.

Monty did what Monty does, finishing with 1 for 16 off his 8 overs. Bowlers from the other end were a little more generous , leaving Falkland 57 for 1 after 16 overs. Spin was then introduced, the wily JC taking 2 for 16 off 7 and Mike Storey taking 1 for 41 off 8. AWR came on to get his wicket, but also get taken for plenty. Ven took 2 wickets from the other end.

Falkland finished on 169 for 7 , far too many runs on such an interesting surface.

Crows strode out after tea, becoming one down after the first ball. AWR gloving a misbehaving lifter behind. JC and Sunny then put on 36 , looking comfortable until Sunny decided to charge past one. JC and Ajay followed Sunny back quickly , leaving crows 41 for 4 . Ven and Venki then put on 68 before Venki fell LBW . Venki had taken 6 body blows by the time he was out, probably should try the bat or dodging the ball next time. Crows needed 6 an over for the last 10 , but despite generous extras and Ven's best effort ( out for 59 ) , we fell 23 runs short of victory.
