Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Mortimer West End on Sun 02 Jun 2019 at 1:30 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 16 runs
Match report
SWEET DREAMS WERE MADE BY EMES
Chris Emes Stunning performance gives Sunday crows second straight win.
Sunday Crows sealed back to back victories with a 17 run win in the Mortimer West End double header weekend.
The day started in typical Sunday fashion, a player running late. This week, Dave Shaw stepped up and took on this huge responsibility that only a chosen few have been able to master. Straight out the car, straight upstairs, straight out on the pitch. Bad man and Dave Shaw to lead the Charge.
Chris who spoke to the skipper the day before, that he wanted to bat up the order and prove his worth as a batsman. So with the captains "Back the youth" philosophy. He backed his young rising star.
After a few sighting deliveries, Chris got off the mark with what can only be described as an absolute monstrous six that flew into the tennis courts which woke up the gallery watching on. Not a bad way to start your innings.
Dave smashed a boundary (I'm sure you can guess where) after watching Chris' six Dave thought he could do the same. Dave, could not do the same. And was caught.
Number 3. Court Now in session.
The Judge being a true Veteran at the top of the order supported Emes in stupendous fashion. As Emes reached his 50 just before drinks the pair having put on 74 in just 13 overs. A happy captain at this point.
The pair surpassed their 100 partnership, Jules was then trapped LBW and given out by swifter finger himself Dave Shaw. Two Emes' now at the crease. The multi instrumentalist Damon Emes was cleaned up first ball with what was said the fast ball he's ever faced.
Enter the Arena. Mr Sunday supremo. KL Rahul
Chris was not long after was cleaned up by the MWE skipper for a brilliant mature innings of 69.
Unfortunately George Tims was not long after. Brundish and Cartledge at the crease anticipation was in the air.
As the Goblet brothers were on course to lead the charge and a massive total looking likely. The skipper was given out to a very Dubious LBW decision when the finger went up the oppo were completely silent. 🤨
With Dan the last line of the defense and wickets falling at regular intervals, DC finished with 45. P Wemes and the return of the Apex Predator Mr Aran 'T-Rex' Long at the end both finishing unbeaten. Crows finished on a decent 211.
But wait. Get comfortable, as that's only one side of this.
A change of tactics as DC was thrown the new ball to lead the charge alongside P.Wemes while Azza had to wait for his tea to go down and settle after sampling the freshly made baked goods that were on offer at tea before he could bowl. DC bowled some pure heat and quality line and length. 4-1-0-4 with a maiden thrown in for good measure. P.Emes also bowled tidily and was unlucky not to get a wicket, 5-0-0-22 respectively.
Now that his tea and cake had settled. The Paddock was open and the hunt was on. 🦖
With the Badman at the other end.
First over didn't quite go according to plan and got a bit of tap (14) Chris struck in his over and removed Telford caught by the skipper behind the sticks. As his third over began Azza wanted a short fine leg and sent Chris into position bowled a long hop, top edge, straight to Chris. "All part of the plan" apparently.
Chris continued on from his performance with bat and picked up 3 wickets in his first three overs. Looking more comfortable and controlled as first change rather than with the new ball. Finishing with 5-0-3-40 respectively.
Batsman's heart skipped a beat. Ben. you're up.
Ben once again showing why he's now "a bowler not a batsman" picked up yet ANOTHER wicket with a great catch by T-Rex at gully/slip. He wasn't sure where he was either.
Spin Doctor Ganesh with ANOTHER terrific bowling display was rewarded with a wicket. Caught by Trex, again, in the cordon, finishing with 8-0-1-33 respectively. Even Papa Emes got to show the onlookers his bowling credentials. 3 overs for 24. Getting tight and with MWE within a shout of knocking it off. The jury had spoke.
All rise. Court back in session.
Death bowling specialist Jules was brought into the attack to restore some order to the law of Sunday cricket.
As was TREX. who'd actually refused before being persuaded otherwise.
Jules naturally kept tightening the screw as Azza at the other end got 2 wickets and a run out in his first over back on, Chris Emes again being involved taking credit for the run out.
With the last wicket standing.. Jules came tearing in and the batsman skied it behind and the skipper took a regulation catch to wrap things up. Job done.
After a long day (and read I'm sure you're thinking now) Brundish spoke to press after the game. "Great day out there today, everyone kept a cool head and we got the win so I'm happy as the boys deserved it after a good first innings and fielding display. Chris was imperious today, the lad has a big future at this club and will I'm sure go on to be one of the greats here."
