Phoenix Rugby Football Club v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 26 May 2019 at 2:00 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
RISING FROM THE ASHES
Crows back to winning ways against Phoenix.
Brundish's Sunday XI got there season back on track after a convincing 9 wicket victory against Phoenix.
Brundish won the toss and elected to bowl in the overcast conditions despite being a decent looking batting track.
Debutante James Scott in true Sunday style starting with a bang and had no white trousers, which was only meant one thing for Phoenix.
"FEAR THE MAN IN TRACKSUIT BOTTOMS"
"Badman" Chris Emes and "Kiwi" Pete Clarke lead the attack, both starting well until S.Datta got a thin edge down the leg side, Captain Crustacean himself shuffled across to take the catch finishing with figures of 1/33 off his 7 overs respectively. Emes himself bagged a scalp not long after caught by Dave shaw, Emes finished with very tidy figures of 1/17 off his 7 overs respectively, including two maidens.
G-force AKA "The Spin Doctor" and P.W.Emes were either end 1st change, their figures didn't reflect how well they bowled as on boundary was extremely short both finishing with figures of 0/33,7 (Pun) and 0/35,7 (Emes) respectively.
The debutante James "Great" Scott, showed no signs of first game nerves and was like a 🦆 to water at midwicket for the vast majority of the innings.
As the innings was drawing to a close, it was that time again, to unleash the weapon, the Sunday strike bowler and the words that put fear into any batsman's heart.
"Ben, warm up!"
Bowling Ben this late on in the innings could of been a risky play as Sri was leading the resistance for Phoenix, however a hell of a lot of swings and misses by Ben's bamboozling variation of pace length line (everything really) he got hold of one the went sky high and DC clung on to take a good swirling catch in the deep to get Ben's 3rd wicket of season.
With judge at the other end keeping things tidy and the last over about to be played only one man for the job. As Emmett Brown would say "Great" Scott!
And he didn't disappoint, the over had everything Sunday cricket is about, full toss, double bouncers, big swing and misses and even a close but unfortunately not given LBW shout with his first ever delivery. 157 is the target.
After Brundish and DC discussed the batting order with the wise man "The Judge" they came to agreement that Jules and "Big Bad" Dave shaw would start us off.
And what a start it was, Jules and Dave put on 42 in just 5 overs before Dave skied one straight down Sri's throat for a solid and effective 24 off just 16 deliveries.
Currently struggling DC strode out at no.3 and looked hungry for runs, prior a small chat with the skipper with a game plan maybe was what he needed.
And it was like he'd never been away, DC showed why he is the Sunday superstar playing with patience and a level head. Played the supporting role as Jules called for it.
Court was in session, and the sentence was execution!
Jules then absolutely teed off, hit a total of 14 fours in his classy 88* and maybe now starting to find some form DC 29* respectively.
And just like that the game was done, Crows chased it down in less than 20 overs.
Brundish looking a lot happier this week spoke to the press at the end of the game.
"Great performance out their today, our fielding was exceptional and pegged them back we were hungry for a win after two disappointing weeks, hopefully we can build on this and take it into the next game."
The Skipper was then asked how he felt that James Scott performed on debut. "I have him the match ball after the game he truly deserves it, he didn't get a chance last year and was pleased with the way he played today, this day was his day and he deserved it."
