Match report Crowthorne & Crown Wood lost the battle of Crowthorne trophy in a tight game against the combined talent of the Wellington College Common Room and Staff.

Crows were invited to bat on account of having 6 players present at 6pm, compared to the College's 8. Brundish and Ven got the trophy holders off to a good start on an immaculate surface, both retired not out along with number 3 Cartledge. Birkett and Taylor saw us through the middle overs nicely at more than a run a ball before the returning Joe Davies played himself then accelerated to retirement, leaving Som, Avi and Dave Shaw to pick up the odd single to close the innings on an imposing 175. Notable was the over of sometime Crow Alan Lenthall (sometimes confused with HoAC Aran Long). His over of high, wide, grenades sometimes trickling off at 45 degrees to the square going for just 7 runs, mainly down to umpire Chandran neglecting to signal in shear bemusement at what he was witnessing.

The College lined up to go hard from the off, with former 'future Crow' Laing and Head of Racquets Tulley swinging at everything. Laing went early, firing a rocket at Mishra at cover who held the on to a corker. Sinith's 2nd over was held up thanks to Shep the dog. This uncontrollable mutt ignored the commands the square leg umpire (HoAC Long) as it was chased round the square by its child owner for fully 5 minutes. This seemed to affect Sin who was promptly racquetted to cow corner by the clean striking racquet master.

Head of Digital Learning O'Loughlin and MacLoed played well for their retirements, despite a notable effort from Luke Taylor who went for just 8 runs in his 2 overs. The odd dropped catch, most memorably the one off Brundish's head, didn't help the run rate. Things were tightened for a few middle overs with Brundish giving Alan Lenthall a working over he will not forget until the bruises subside. Shaw and Mishra bowled a bit too well, taking wickets that brought the lower order academics to the crease, most of whom had represented either Oxford or Cambridge universities at a variety of sports.

These heavy hitting gentlemen saw the game home with just 3 balls to spare in an enjoyable competitive derby.
