Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets (woop woop take 2)

Match report Could the 1s make it two in a row …

A late drop out brought Barrymore back into the fold - what difference would that make … quite a lot … read on

It started well, the skipper winning the toss and electing to field - a formula that served well the week before. Strady bowling from Cluett and Chandran kept the fielers interested. A batsman obviously more used to playing 20:20 swingin to leg anything that was off stump or left. motored the score to 33 off 7. The trap has been set, DC on the boundary, there for the catch- oh no he's tipped it over th bar ofr a six. Cluett takes it into his own hands , one swing across the line too many and LBW!

And the run rate plumetted, 2 an over. A bowling change and Batsman No.3 came and went courtest of tight bowling from Jugbol. At 83 off 29 overs Cluett then prised the limpett like form of the 67 year old opener swining across the line. Has he no shame!!! 84 for 3 off 30. Things were not looking bad. However with two qaulity looking batsman at the crease (3 catches already dropped) what was around the corner. Barrymore the hero from the previous week with a sharp chance taken at slip spilled an easy one off Godbole. Could this be a turning point. Jugbole was having none of it. He called Barrymore back to the slips ("i trust you", and the next ball Barrymore reached and stretched to twice his natural form taking a stunning one handed catch behind him high to his right. The following over the other batsman obviously feeling threatened by the consistency and strike power of the Jugbole, went for a ramp shot "there was no fineleg as he explained after the game". Oops LBW! Jugbole 1 batsman 0!!.

And then came, 2 balls later, the most village of village cricket. Jugbol bamboozling the batsman caused a ball mishot - the ba; wnet syyaright up in the air - calls of acth it to Brundash went unheeded as the ball landed 1m from the stumps. The batsman started to ran not knowing where the ball had gone either. Enter, O'loughlin, having bowled several overs at the other end to no avail leapt into action. With a clear runout on the cards he threw at the stumps (1m remember) and ... missed - the batsman having tried to regain his ground then called for the single as the overthrow was taken.

5 more drop catches later - Jaffa claimed his fivfer of drops (Outram the final culprit off a diving chance) and a couple of good catches (Haji into the sun) taken - Chandran collecting two wickets in two overs. And with Jugbol picking up 5 with the final catch Outram making amends (calls of favouritsm echoing across the ground) Cluett wrapped things up with the 3rd LBW of the day - P&TG 178 all out off 50.3.

Could the Crows make 179 to cotinue their winning streak.

And so it started - O'Loughlin and Oun at the crease, 13 off 5 overs, no alras just steady batting. Pun, short and wide, pulled but alas straigth to midwicket. Enter O|utrm unbeaten the previous week, coudl he do the same. A scratchy start, O'loughlin the more agressive falling for 26 n the 12th - 39 for 2. Cartledge in fine form (Sundays mehhhh) stepped up and tripped up, bowled by the unorthodox leggy. 40-3 of 14.Run rate as just abouut ok but wickets (was it alll going to go wrong?). Barrymore, cool suave Barrymore, chilled relaxed just enjoing his cricket arrived at the crease respected the good ball, and hit the bad one (and some goodones too) on his way to his 35 inside egding his cover drive to midwicket - not part of the plan!! Outram meanwhile was steadily accumulating, nearing an other 50 but not getting any of the strike, sitting on 40 something for what seemed an eternity. Vogel joins him at the crease with Crows on a healthy 123 for 4 off 31 ("you're on 47/48 or something like that :) he says". "We're going up in 10s Marv" the reply. 2 balls later a scampered 2 and there it is consecutive 50s for the Skip. Can he see them home... the following 3 balls went for 3 4s and he only faced 3 more balls with Vogel scoring a quickfire 38 off 21 balls sealing the win in the 37th over.

Great win Crows - let's see what we can do against the league winners next week ... (and perhaps take a few more catches? ... please)
