Emmbrook & Bearwood 2 v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club League 2nd XI on Sat 12 Aug 2017 at 1:00 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
DAN-TASTIC CROWS CRUSH 1-MAN EMBROOK
You don't have to be called Dan to get a bowl in the 2nd XI, but it certainly helps. The 3-pronged Dan-attack of Messrs Finucane, Crinnion and Partridge did for 9 of the 10 wickets to fall inside 26 overs on Saturday. Nirav, who picked up the 10th,is reportedly talking to deed poll about a change of moniker as we speak.
Embrook got off to the worst possible start when Dan Crinnion bowled Robertson with a beauty in the first over.
Not to be outdone, skipper Finucane got in on the act immediately with a slightly fortuitous wicket with his first ball.
This early double breakthrough brought the imposing Rajgoplan strutting to the middle. A few early blocks were only masking his true intent, as he soon opened his shoulders and started to regularly practice hitting the ball as far and straight as he could.
His teammates could not provide the support he needed as wickets fell at the other end as he continued is one man assault on the Crows attack.
Crinnion and Finucane removed the first 5 wickets but runs were flowing at a good rate for the home side.
Finucane turned to his wily first-change pair of Partridge and Nirav. Rajgopalan wasn't too bothered with this change as he continued his merry way.
He found a good partner in Viroja, but he soon perished to a textbook Partridge fast ball. In-swinging at the base of off-stump. A brow-wiping masterpiece.
The versatile Crinnion was now behind the pegs after his bowling spell as the Crows focussed on taking wickets and tried to ignore the impressive run-rate generated almost entirely by the statuesque Rajgopalan.
Partridge had his tail up and cleaned up the hapless Robertson and then had Ryan May stumped the very next ball by novice keeper Crinnion.
A solid defensive block by the hat-trick ball recipient was only brief respite as the young batsman fell to the wily bowling of Nirav soon after.
The number 11, Hunt, survived better than some of his teammates but soon succumb to another stumping from Crinnion. Partridge fondly remembering the mouthful Hunt had given him earlier in the season as he trudged off having been dismissed twice in 4 balls by Partridge this season.
An early tea was well received in the festering ambience of Embrook's "Seedy Nightclub" style clubhouse.
Crinnion, with more than one eye on the football scores, was in heaven as Chelsea went 3 down. His excitement hardly containable.
Nash and McQuitty strode out to the middle knowing sensible batting would see the Crows to Victory. Both took their time and started to frustrate the happy-clappers in the Embrook team.
McQuitty's demise after a long vigil bought Razz Shaik to the crease and he set about accelerating the run-rate, whilst the ever diligent Nash at the other end dabbed and drove majestically as ever.
Nash departed and Jay Blaney, making his return to the club where it all started, played a nice cameo for 20 as the Crows eased to their target.
When Shaik departed for a match-winning 47 and Naga Bommanapalli for 8 it left Pete Clarke and Chris Winch to see the Crows to victory by 5 wickets.
A jubilant Finucane addressed the assembled ranks of the local press outside the squalid Dressing room: "This was a great team performance and a very good win. Early wickets certainly helped us but we stood firm when their big guy stated smashing us to all parts. I'm pleased for #teamdan to get 9 of the wickets and we'll be looking to add a couple more Dan's to the team next week as a result"
