Match report Stormy St Sebs

The weather as we gathered at St Sebs was awful. Dark clouds loomed and talk of the game being cancelled followed. But the day brightened, the covers came off and the skipper won the toss and into the field we went. The sun came out and a relaxing and peaceful afternoon of cricket was surely to follow. Finucane and Charman opened up and it wasn't long before we were amongst the wickets with a good C+B sending the opener home. No. 3 came in and started throwing his weight into some bold shots on a dodgy track before a huge edge to Saviour. Hang on, he's still there. He's not walked and the umpire has inexplicably not given it. Justice would be served. Sure enough Ant pouched a good catch in the deep and he didn't seem to want to go again, staring down Nirav for his celebration. Wondering whether something else strange had happened, the Judge enquired as to whether he hadn't hit that one either and that was too much. Dummy out. Toys on the floor and after a quick rant stomped off to the pavilion. A bit like asking mummy when daddy says no, he then proceeded to rant at the skipper on the square leg boundary before coming back as umpire to rant at anyone else who would care to listen.
The wickets continued to tumble with Dan and Nirav finishing with 4 each and a mediocre 106 on the board. The tension was still in the air during tea (cheers Dave) and the Judge and Tom led out the chase. Turns out Mr Grumpy was the keeper and having had a rest, was in fine voice winding us up with his obnoxious verbal diarrhoea. Again justice would be served. But not quite yet. Judge ran him self out, Tom nicked off and the wickets kept tumbling. 14 and 12 for Nikhil and Bainesy were worth twice that with the grass long and wet and the wicket hard to read. The game was on a knife age, but the wickets in hand fell faster than the runs required and soon it was one wicket to go with 5 overs still to bat. Operation piss'emoff was then enacted by the skipper and Nirav and the bus was parked. The tension was rising, Mr Grumpy was getting louder as the balls disappeared. Ant's chirp of "backing up Nirav" in the last over fell on deaf ears as the skipper saw off the final over to provide a moral victory in a losing draw. It was all too much for Mr Grumpy and his friends who have had enough of this stupid league. "Why do we play in this (*&^%%^& league?" was the question. "Because you're too rubbish to play in anything better" was surely the answer.
