Match report CROWS CREEP OVER THE LINE IN EARLEY THRILLER.

Earley CC sent home early thanks to R Crook patience in first games of league cricket game of season.
On a grey overcast but dry Sat afternoon Dan Hurricane F strode out to the middle for a coin toss to open the curtain on a new season of Cricket at St Sebs. After winning the toss Dan made the call for the Crows to bowl on a pitch that looked to offer some good support to the precision bowlers at his disposal.
After Dan gave his pre match team talk the team strode out for what would be low scoring but close match. Doug and Dan opened the bowling with ruthless efficiency and the Earley openers struggled to score at any great rate. When Dan threw the ball to Nirav he started to make the ball do allsorts and thanks to two fabulous catches from Jules the two openers had returned to the pavilion for 23 apiece. With the new batsmen at the crease the runs remained difficult to obtain, and at drinks Earley sat on 74. Earley knew they needed to increase the total and the batsmen started to hit out, with a few more chances put down by the crows fielders Earley moved to 140 when Ant Avrili took his first wicket of the new season. Doug and Dan came back with tight bowling and Dan F picked up another wicket, with only a few overs remaining Early managed to set the target at 183 to win.
A fabulous tea was taken with a selection of hotel quality sandwiches and cakes available, the task was simple, be patient and the runs would come. With the message resonating around the Crows team the batsmen Rob and Jules walked out to the middle. With Rob on baby alert he slowly started to accumulate runs, Jules however fell early without scoring, In bounced Chris A to add some much needed runs, however he top edged a catch and walked off with the scores 34 for 2. Nav followed soon after again top edging for a catch and the match was finely poised at 64 for 3 after 22 overs.
With Rob sitting nicely on 40 he was joined at the crease by Shaw, who bludgeoned the bowlers all over the place for a 10 over onslaught, putting on a 68 run partnership with Crook, Rob now over the 50 mark was joined by Joe H after Shaw had been caught eventually on the 5th attempt. Rob then lost his concentration and inside edged one onto his stumps, with the score at 134 Crows had broken the back of the target, Joe h then fell for 13 followed by Avrili for 0, it was left to Doug and Baines to see the crows home, with Doug nudging it around and Baines doing the big damage, with 4 overs to go Earley threw the ball to D Bye and Baines said goodbye and proceeded to smack 17 runs of his only over to see Crows win and take the points.
After the game Dan F said “I really enjoyed the game today, all the lads played well and if we play together as a team we can go far in the league this season”.
