Match report Match turned on its head by huge-hitting Hopper.

The penultimate league match for the 1st XI was a turned around by one man, Peppard's Matt Hopper, turning a likely win for the 1st XI into a resounding defeat.

Skipper Nick won the toss and bowled, and looked like a sound decision as Jeff and Sin tore into the Peppard top order. Jeff got Nutt and Fooks with consecutive balls, Sin induced a false shot by Watts, taken spectacularly by Ant Cluett in the covers, and Jeff trapped Wirght to leave Peppard in deep trouble at a very un-Peppard-like 23-4. Defiance from Ashton was ended when he left a cutter from Shak and was bowled. It was 56-6 when Godbole took a blinder over his head to dismiss the resolute Hennessy (40) to give Crook a deserved wicket. The game turned on its head when Matt Hopper came in. He immediately found the middle of his sizeable bat, battering a six over mid-wicket off Shak, and continued in this vein for all of his innings. There were nine sixes in the innings and he was well supported by Clifton (dropped 3 times). Jeff reterned to dismiss Clifton and Hopper was left scandalously stranded on 99 when Jeff claimed his 5 wicket haul with the final ball of his spell. Peppard finished on 196, 100 runs more than expected!

After a lovely Barron family tea, with the momentum with Peppard, CCWCC's innings started poorly, the strong-looking top order blown away by young Clifton. Avrili batted with composure but only three batters made double figures. Clifton finished with hugely impressive figures of 12-7-12-6. It was a chastening defeat and revenge for Peppard for the earlier season reverse result. There was an end-of-term feel to the game but really no excuse for the poor batting of the Crows.
