Berkshire County Sports v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club League 1st XI on Sat 15 Jul 2017 at 1:00 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Six ducks and a revival
It was a typical summers day in Britain. The dreadful message on WhatsApp from Ant had already dampened the moods of the crows players. (Our players turned up in their winter clothing as you would on any cold summer's day in Britain).
Skipper Jeff was so confident that the team would be getting a game, that he didn't take any notice of the weather forecast team that made the claims of having an Indian summer ( the summer where we had so much rain that the weather team in BBC had to go underground with the fear of being sued by the Insurance companies).
Weather aside, the team were raring to go and take a look at the pitch. The grounds adjacent to ours were fully covered with them classy green covers whilst ours did have green cover albeit that was just the green grass on the pitch. The team strolled to the middle and when they eventually found the pitch, the captain made up his mind. Lads - we will bat first so that when we come to bowl the pitch would dry up and it would be easy for our fielding.
With a wet soggy ball the skipper wanted us to have a practice session which was a bit like Takeshi's castle minus the commentary. Sin showing of his skills on how to drop the catches whilst Dave giving us a lesson in catching the ball wearing some heavy bling blings.
The toss did happen and we chose to bat first. We made our way to the changing room to change into our Greys and whites when we heard Ant saying - "Guys, I haven't got my whites". All the remaining players started searching their kit bags to see if they had any form of white clothing ( Grey even) . Rob to the rescue with the spare white trousers. With no luck finding a spare white top Ant was almost in tears. Their were suggestions that Ant could play wearing a jumper to which Ant was heard saying - "I can't do that". Cometh the hour, cometh the man - The Earl. Earl gives his white slim fit top to Ant to which Ant said - Sin, you did lose a lot of weight.
What followed after this for the next 45 minutes is best to be forgotten. Except for Rob, most of our batsmen got out to shots that they would regret forever. Rob came up with an array of shots and made the batting look so easy. Naga did survive for a bit with Rob. Razz was sent in at number 8 and was asked to play a supporting role with Rob looking really solid. Having just broken a window at BCS pavilion, Rob got out to Shoaib Aktar's doppelganger ( just the run up with no pace). Razz then picked up the tempo. Earl the last man in, had a lengthy chat with Razz and both agreed that there is no point hanging about. Razz came up with 2 big shots and then got caught by keeper. We managed to get to a total of 99.
Our bowlers did try and bowl well but a mere total of 99 was too little to defend for the Crows. Highlight of our bowling was when Dave tried to take a catch using his belly. Ant took 3 and Sin got 1 wicket for the Crows but it was all too late.
Our players spent more time on WhatsApp before the game than they spent at the crease whilst batting. A day to forget by 11 crows who made a trip to Reading! Haji came from Southampton to bat for us.
Man of the Match - Rob Crook
Match Report 2: BCS BLOW AWAY EMBATTLED CROWS
Crows continued their run of poor form with the bat by posting only 99 when batting first against BCS, which would never prove to be enough on a ground with a lightning-fast outfield. Rob Crook was a man apart, returning from a 6-week absence in splendid style with a quick-fire 66 that made a mockery of what went on at the other end. With the ball, Ant Cluett made use of friendly spin conditions, claiming 3 wickets including a superb caught and bowled. BCS rode their luck at times, but in the end cantered home for the loss of only 4 wickets.
