Match report Phoenix put Crows to the torch as sunday side go down in flames

Phoenix were on fire and a spirited Crowthorne performance only fanned the flames, as hopes of a win were left in ashes.

Mackenzie lost the toss and crows were put into the field.

The phoenix batsmen smashed 145 off the first 15 overs, as first Golding and then Clarke failed to rein in the attacking play leaving the crows looking down the barrel of 400, and giving the skipper with little option but to bring himself on to bowl, and along with Baines (3 for 31 off 8) he managed to slow the run rate and get amongst the middle order. Mackenzie took his 50th wicket for the club, and was unlucky not to take more with several catches going begging. He took a catch himself as well as a lightning run out from deep midwicket but it wasn't enough. 2 wickets each at the end for Luke Taylor and Brundish had phoenix all out, but the target of 294 looked a mammoth task and so it turned out. Baines (26) and Clarke(11) tried hard early on, but when they went further wickets followed and only another superb knock from Brundish (61) and long (16) in a decent partnership of 80 made things respectable, along with a fine late cameo from crinnion ( 29*)
Mackenzie batted away praise from the waiting press for his own performance, preferring to heap praise on his team mates, 'Yes I bowled very well, and fielded brilliantly, but today really wasn't about me, and id prefer to talk about the good stuff I saw out there from the rest of the boys. It was tough going in the field, but they kept going and never gave up, and we can take real heart from the way we battled with the bat. Making 199 with wickets in hand by the end was agreat credit to everyone."
