Crows Crushed as Casuals Court Controversy

A classy hundred from O'Loughlin on his home ground couldn't save the crows from defeat despite able support from brundish (35) taking them to 111 for 2 in the 22nd over and looking well on top. Brundish's wicket sparked a run of 5 ducks in a row however, which nearly left Jules stranded in the 90s, and only some obstinate batting from Tom Crocker at #11 saw him over the line as the home side posted a competitive but slightly disappointing total of 183 for 9, on an excellent pitch that had a bit in it for both bat and ball.

The Tea of the year followed, with 5 (yes 5) home made cakes, and the crows took to the field fit to burst.
It didn't seem to take the edge off their game, as Sheppard and Cartledge had the casuals 41 for 3 after 14 overs and the crows were cock-a-hoop. Some wayward bowling followed however, allowing W.G R*pe to race on to 75 and leaving the game in the balance. Baines came on to bowl, taking two wickets in quick succession , before an incident that marred an otherwise light-hearted game. Baines bowled another peach of a delivery, the batsman took a swipe and there was a clear noise that couldn't have been anything other than bat on ball, R.P Hester took a sharp chance behind the stumps and the crows celebrated as the danger man was surely out. The umpire (an ex crow, no less) wasn't looking, and the batsman refused to walk, insisting he hadn't touched it, despite everyone on the field hearing the nick, which prompted a string of expletives from our knight of the realm, and sent Baines into meltdown. W.G R*pe took advantage of his extra life and raced past 100, winning the game on his own with 4 overs to spare.
A sad day for cricket, and for this longstanding and usually very friendly fixture.

The clearly angry skipper, Mackenzie, refused to talk to reporters after the game, and who can blame him.
