Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 12 runs

Match report Sunday Crows Snatch Stunning Victory in a Startling finish at St Sebastians.

After last weeks disappointing season opener, the Sunday Crows returned home to face Englefield, keen to put that performance behind them. It started well, Mackenzie lost the toss but was put in to bat, which is what he would have done if he'd won it.

Barron and Davies opened the innings and looked classy and in control until Barron went for 17 in the 9th over. Davies who had looked rusty early on, began to stroke the ball around, but a flurry of wickets left Crowthorne 65 for 6 at drinks, and staring down the barrel.
Out strode the first hero of the day, Joe Hardy, playing down the order battered 70(n.o) runs off the next 17 overs, with 8 fours and 3 sixes, ably assisted by a 12 year old Luke Taylor who dug in and stuck around for a hard won 6. The Crows finished on 160, which was a mile away from the predicted total at the half way mark and very defendable.

After tea there was a great opening bowling partnership between Brundish and Cartledge, which had the decibel levels breaching several Health and Safety laws, and Englefield three wickets down for only 25 runs after 13 overs.

Some good bowling from Manning and Davies was met with belligerent batting from Zeeman and Keen at the change, and the score raced over 100 with only 4 wickets down. Mackenzie was pulling his hair out, but also pulled four inspired bowling changes out of his hat; Hardy, the hero with the bat, bowled 2 overs of wayward madness, but surprised the batsmen with 2 straight ones and grabbed two crucial wickets, Manning came on and removed the opener on 49, Baines(fresh from a stint with the gloves) grabbed 2 more, and then 12 y.o Luke Taylor (3 overs, 2 wickets,5 runs) turned the game on its head with a brilliantly accurate spell, and the skipper ended englefield's dreams when he held on to a tough catch at mid off, from baines' bowling, with only 10 runs, and 3 overs remaining.

Speaking to reporters after the game Mackenzie had nothing but praise for the two young match winners. "Incredible stuff from Hardy with the bat, it was one of the quickest 50s ive seen, and more amazing bowling from the 12 y.o Taylor won the game for us, the boy is a star in the making."
