Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Midweek XI v UCB on Thu 21 May 2015 at 6:00 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 56 runs

Match report The Crows continued their winning ways as new T20 skipper A Baines leads them to success.

Crows batted first, as Barrymore and Prince Charman laid a good foundation both getting to 25 unscathed. More valuable runs came from Whitehurst and Elrick. Rob 'Fingers' Crook managed to steal a few runs but the demise of the frenzy brought about a flurry of wickets, as Crook and Manning fell in consecutive balls. CCWCCs best find in a new batsman stepped up to the crease, the rejuvenated RP Hester. He and Bainsey steadied the ship before RP crazily ran himself out thinking the ball was at third man when infact it was in the keepers gloves! Bainsey, Clarke and Cartledge got some more runs to leave an imposing target of 161.

The Crows started shakily, but Elrick took 3 quick wickets and UCB never really recovered from it. There was a good run out from Clarke and wickets then fell at regular intervals with Manning and Mackenzie making up for their earlier ducks with 2 a piece. It was just a matter of time before all the wickets were taking, with skipper Baines wrapping it up.

A great victory, and the Crows T20 machine keeps rattling on.

Baines spoke to the media masses after the game:

'It was a great win, a top team display with plenty of batsman making double figures. I was pleased with my own contribution, but it's more about the team.'

When asked about his selection as skipper, Baines was ever so modest:
'Look it's a real honour to captain the T20 side. RP Hester chose me for the job, and to be recognised as an up and coming captain by such a Crows legend is great, I've been a big fan of RP for years, particularly his batting...it's bizarre he keeps getting overlooked for the first team.'

When asked about his predecessor, Aussie Joe Davies, Baines had some kind words:
'T20 is tough business, you win or lose on real close margins. Joe is a great player, but should he ever have been captain? I hear he's had to move to Birmingham to get over that particular episode'

The media were clamouring for Mackenzie and Manning to be dropped, but Baines remained supportive:
'I'm sure this was just a blip for them, and they made up for it with some wickets. Mackenzie just needs to rediscover the magic, else his crows contract may be in doubt'
