Match report Doug the destroyer demolishes opposition and takes delighted Crows to decisive victory off last ball in 20/20 thriller

Doug Charman's destructive batting took Crows to an incredible last ball win against Foster Wheeler last night at St Sebastians.

Winning the Toss, Stand in Skipper Dave Shaw elected to Field first, despite pleas from the opposition, in a display of ruthlessness that would prove to be key in the end.

The Crows Opening bowlers, Long and Clarke, bowled tidy spells and the Foster wheeler openers struggled to score, with 19 dot balls and only three boundaries in the first 4 overs. but it was Allwright that eventually did the damage, taking one wicket and running both openers out with two direct hits from point. Tidy spells from the wily cartledge and Dan manning were almost ruined by a wayward spell of wides from Mackenzie, obviously still struggling with confidence after sundays heavy defeat. Allwright returned for the final over and managed to keep the score below 150 when it had looked that they would pass that with ease at one point.

The Crows openers, Boulton and Saunders, took to the crease and Boulton looked in scintillating form, scoring 19 off 10 balls, before being cruelly dismissed when the bowler dropped a catch from a ferociously hit ball by Saunders, straight onto the stumps, with boulton just out of his crease.
Allwright came and went, bringing Doug Charmin to the crease. With Saunders playing steadily at one end, Charmin went after the bowling, smashing boundary after boundary and racing to 25 and retirement.
The Crows were ahead of the run rate now, but when the skipper went for 0, the scoring slowed. Saunders retired and Mackenzie came to the crease, keeping the score board ticking over, but a succession of wickets at the other end meant they slipped behind the run rate, and things looked perilous. One massive six from Mackenzie brought them back on track and then the wicket of Clarke brought Doug the destroyer back to the crease in the final over, Mackenzie went for 19, and a single from Manning left Charman facing the last two balls, requiring 8 to win. Shastry was bowling very fast in the gloom, and those on the boundary began to fear defeat, but their fears were unfounded, as Charmin smashed a 6 and a four to win the game, prompting joyous celebrations in the pavilion.

In truth, Foster Wheeler could count themselves a touch unlucky to lose, and were left to rue Shaw's ruthlessness at the toss, as they were left playing the last hour with only 9 fielders.
Skipper Shaw, speaking to the press after the game said,'there is no room for charity in this game, we won the toss and the conditions dictated we should field first, regardless of the oppositions situation.' adding, ' I'm proud of the lads, who fought hard for every run with bat and ball, and the right team won the game in the end.'
