Match report Sandhurst Slam Sunday Crows at St Sebs

Mackenzie lost the toss and the crows were put in to the field.

Nirav struck in the first over, and wickets fell regularly throughout a Sandhurst innings held together by Hill (60)
Two wickets apiece for the miserly Long, and Cartledge, were the pick of the figures, and there were two brilliant overs of leg spin from the youngster Wilson who turned it a mile and was unlucky not to take a wicket.

At the end of their 40 overs, the Sandhurst total of 191 looked slightly above par, but not impossible, and the crows began their innings in confident mood.

For 12 overs the openers plugged away, and the score was 49 when Baines finally succumbed. Barron fell soon after for 26. The flood gates were opened and Sandhurst took wickets every few overs until Cartledge came to the crease, batting in the unfamiliar position of 7, and he set about the bowling in usual style, but when he was bowled for 17 by the excellent Malia (3-16-3)in the 29th over, Crowthorne were still 81 runs short with only 3 wickets in hand.

Wilson showed some real spirit, and was joined by Mackenzie, but when a captains innings was required, the skipper went for a duck, and the game looked almost over.

A spirited last stand by Nirav and Long only served to create some hope, only for it to be crushed as the required run rate slowly grew unmanageable. When long finally fell off the last ball Crowthorne were a heartbreaking 17 runs short.

An inconsolable Mackenzie spoke to the press after the game, saying " I take full responsibility for this shameful loss. The pressure got to me, and I didn't cope well. we have to move on to the next game, but it will take a long time for me to recover. I've let my team mates, the club and the village of Crowthorne down today." Sentiments none of the gathered reporters could really argue with.
