Match report
CROWS 2'S RECORD BACK TO BACK WINS
Kieran's five-for leads thumping win!
A lovely sunny day started off with the skipper frantically searching for the keeping gear at the New ground. Everyone joined the search and finally gave up when the kit was nowhere to be seen. After losing the toss, Farley Hill's skipper was seen yelling at their umpire for making a statement- "tails always fails".
The openers came to bat and they were soon greeted with some excellent swing bowling by Dan Crinnion and the skipper. There were lots of missed opportunities to get the openers out. The opening bowlers only went for less than 30 runs in their spell. Nirav took over from the pavilion end and got one of the openers out by getting him clean bowled! He got Farley Hill's number 3 batsmen out with a ball that could have got even the best of the best players out as tom took a wonderful catch in the slip to get Khokar out. This came as a huge relief to the skipper as Khokar was their batsman. Kieran then took over from the other end and joined the party with some excellent bowling. His best wicket was the one that got Jalil out when he nicked one to the slip cordon where Joe caught it one handed. It was one of those catches that got even the opposition players talking! Nirav and Kieran kept getting wickets of their spell. Kieran finished his first spell with 2 wickets whilst Nirav continued his spell from the other end. He could have had 4 wickets but a chance to get Timms out went begging. Once Nirav finished his spell the skipper thought he could continue from where he left off in his first spell. Boy oh boy: - What a huge mistake that was to be! Timms and Vorster from the opposition tore apart the skippers bowling. The skipper had young Crinnion to thank who came running to the skipper to tell him that Kieran was allowed to bowl 2 more overs. Dan Cartledge then got Timms bowled and it was over to Kieran to clean up the tail. Kieran missing out on a hat-trick chance went on to claim five-for. The opposition were bowled out for 172 and this was all down to an excellent team effort in the field. Dougie and Tom were quite busy in the field and all the players kept encouraging the bowlers by showing a great commitment.
It was time for teas and thanks to Emma (as always) she had the teas all set for us on the table. Dave being the tea lady for the day had lots of good food for both teams.
It was the first time in the season; the skipper had a batting line up that went up to number 7!
Tom and Joe opened for us. Tom got caught in the slips when he went to cream one of Clacey's bowling and Joe then got out when he played a defensive shot. Suraj went in to bat at number 3 and scored some quick boundaries while Dan Cartledge played some wonderful defensive strokes. Suraj was going really well scoring runs but nicked one to the slips of Jorey's bowling. Dave was then sent in to basically play his natural game but to everyone's surprise, played 2 defensive shots. When the opposition saw us all laughing for his defensive strokes, they knew the kind of shots Dave would be playing and soon filled the boundary with catchers. Dave scored a quick 14 before getting caught at ...yes, you guessed it:-"Cow corner". Dougie then joined Cartledge and both went to put on a 50 run partnership. Dan after playing a composed innings got out on 44. James went into bat with still lots of runs to win but soon hit 4 boundaries. Cartledge almost costed us the game by letting Dougie know that he was on 47. It was soon to be the reason for the Dougie's fine innings to come to an end as he tried to cream one to the boundary only to spoon it in the air to the slips. Skipper was then seen trying to advise young Crinnion to play his natural game. Crinnion soon scored a boundary and James finished the game by scoring a boundary.
A great team game played on a lovely sunny day. The captain spoke to the press after the game and told them not to publish his figures as it doesn't do justice to his first spell of 9 overs for 13 runs. He also spoke about the excellent bowling from all the bowlers and the wonderful effort by his fielders and batsmen.
The selector was then seen with lots of beer bottles in his hand trying to tell everyone it was his selection that won the game :)
Thanks to all of who came to watch. Special thanks to Brendy for getting the keeping gear for us from St Sebs, Emma for arranging the teas and sorting the score board, John C for helping me with the score book, Alan for umpiring, Azza for the beers, Dan P and Brendy for encouraging the team from the boundary line and finally Dave for sorting out the lovely tea. Also would like to thank all the parents who came to watch. Apologies if I've missed anyone.
Huge thanks to all the players who did their bit after the game.
