Match report 3rds lose in tight finish

West Reading won the toss and chose to field

Wickets fell early, including a very sorting walk by the skipper (he would rue being so sporting later on).

Good knocks from the Judge(42) and Big Jay (27) and good lusty blows from Monty (18 not out) helped Crows to 166 for 8 off 45 overs.

During the innings there were 3 instances of crows being accused of cheating while umpiring, this left a nasty taste to what would turn out to be a really close game. Would also lead to a clear decision not being given when West Reading batted.

After tea, crows took to the field to defend 166. Good opening spells from Monty and the Judge (apart from one over of all sorts) left West Reading needing 5 an over from the remaining 25 overs.
The skipper then turned to the spin triple of Cartledge , Baines and McQuitty. Wickets started to fall, 4 to Baines from an excellent 10 over spell.

With 3 overs to go West Reading needed 20 to win. JC whittled one out to leave the oppo 9 down , still needing 15 to win. Skipper had to bring himself on to bowl some overs, unfortunately conceding a booming six to give West Reading victory in the 44th over, before JC had a chance at the rabbit number 11.

A special mention needs ot be made about Matt Wilson, who made his first appearance in League Cricket. Batted with great technique and his fielding put the old gits int he team to shame. Look forward to having him regularly in the 3rds.
