Ruislip Victoria v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club League 1st XI on Sat 27 Jun 2015 at 1:30 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Crowthorne & Crown Wood 1st XI went top of the Berkshire League with a maximum point victory over last year's fellow promoted teams. With Sulhamstead held to a winning draw by Woodley, Crows top the Premier division at the halfway stage by a slim margin.

Opting to bowl first, a team missing six first team regulars showed strength in depth by bowling RV out for 100. Jeff Cluett and Shakeel Arshad bowled high class swing bowling, and it was no surprise when Shakeel got Khan to edge behind to a diving Azza Maharoof. Cluett deceived Krunic, getting a well deserved wicket in his opening spell before Shakeel bowled a cracker of a ball Srinivasan. The batsman lingered disbelievingly at the crease as all the close fielders, and most importantly, the Umpire, heard the snick behind. Skipper Anthony Cluett then brought the rabbit out of the hat by bringing on "experienced" Ravi Godbole. With consistent and controlled bowling, he tempted the set Ansari (22) into a lofted drive to Outram. Godbole then took the important wicket of Kapoor, lbw. Ahmed, frustrated by the nagging line and length mis-timed a ball into mid-wicket Careem's hands. The skipper claimed a wicket before Godbole got another one to straighten for another lbw and then capping his 5-for with a perfect ball to Jamil (who had just hit a six) knocking back off stump. Jeff Cluett returned to end the RV innings, Booth unbeaten on a defiant 15, and RV all out for exactly 100. Godbole finished with 5-23, Shakeel 2-26 and J. Cluett 2-27.

The chase started well for the Crows, Izzadeen the more attacking batter, hitting drives and square of the wicket beautifully. RV bowled good balls on occasion but the pressure was never kept on. It took a run-out for the opening partnership to be broken, with good fielding leading to Izzadeen's run-out, looking for a tight second run. Nick Outram looked solid until another direct hit run-out from the keeper ended his innings. Luckily captain Cluett (Anthony) was playing a gem of an innings and saw the chase home in the 19th over, finishing 41*.

The Crows will hope the second half of the season is as outrageously fantastic as the first, and they can now realistically think of competing with Sulhamstead, West Reading and others for the title.
