Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Thames Valley Ramblers on Sun 12 Jul 2015 at 1:30 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Lost by 28 runs
Match report
Ramblers rout rattled Crows in the rain
Mackenzie's young crows side suffered their second loss in successive weeks in damp conditions at St Sebastians.
Crows won the toss and elected to bowl, and they tore into the ramblers top order, with Cartledge and Murray looking unplayable and taking a wicket each. Baines bowled a miserly spell, while Williams took a couple of wickets, and the Ramblers were shell shocked. Jones(49 n.o) joined opener lester(78) at the crease, and began settling things down, playing sensibly and picking off the bad balls. Storey and Crocker tied them down a bit, with Storey in particular bowling a brilliant spell (0 for 3 off 4) that had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble and was unlucky not to take a wicket. Davies took two wickets at the end (one with a great full length diving catch from Mackenzie)
but a wayward spell of 3 overs at the end by the skipper pushed the score over 200, which would turn out to be key at the end.
The Crows got off to a quick start as Shaw and Baines set about the bowling. Shaw went for 14 in the 7th over, and Cartledge and Davies weren't too far behind. Baines went on to score a disciplined 62 before he was dismissed and that left 'the Archbishop' Rowan Williams to hold the tail together, which he did well, while riding his luck somewhat. He ended up unlucky not to get his baggy green, left stranded on 42 not out as the wickets tumbled around him in the drizzle, as the ball began to skid through very low. The Crows were all out with 2 overs remaining, 28 short of a winning total and were left to rue the 32 extras, and a few missed chances in the field.
A disconsolate Mackenzie took the blame while speaking to the press after the game; "My bowling was awful, the wides contributed to the loss, as did giving my wicket away at the end, and id like to apologise to my team for letting them down out there."
