Goring v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 02 Aug 2015 at 2:00 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Lost by 80 runs
Match report
10 Man Crowthorne gored at Goring.
Mackenzie lost the toss and Goring elected to bat first on an absolute road.
The bowlers toiled away in the heat, struggling to cope with the massive slope, and left-right hand opening partnership. the 50 came up after just 8 overs, and The crows knew they were in trouble. Goring reached 100 after just 12 overs, and 150 after only 16 and the fielders spent a lot of time looking for the ball in the surrounded shrubbery . Mackenzie Cycled through his bowling options but nothing seemed to work, with only Storey managing any control at all, going at a relatively miserly 5 an over. The wicket finally fell with the excellent Charman getting his man with only 4 overs to go. The skipper himself took the wicket of the other opener off the last ball, leaving Crowthorne with a massive target of 283 off their 35 overs.
Barron smashed a quick-fire 50 and Crowthorne were up with the run rate, but he fell soon after, and though Sheppard battled away at one end for 76, the other wickets fell regularly and the target receded into the distance. Mikey batted well, finishing on 27 not out and Crowthorne finished 80 runs short, with 2 wickets remaining
An upbeat Mackenzie spoke to the press after the game, saying " We worked really hard today, I was happy with the attitude we showed under a real barrage out there. You have to take your hats off to Goring, we came up against two very good batsmen who played superbly. I was pleased with the way we battled though, and it was good to get to 200 by the end with wickets in hand. We pick ourselves up and move on the next game"
