Englefield v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 24 May 2015 at 2 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Barron blitzes Englefield with blistering bowling spell, and Cartledge carries Crows to crushing conquest.
The Sunday Crows put in a great team performance with bat and ball to win their 2nd game of the season in the stunning setting of englefield house.
A BBQ related gentleman's agreement saw the Crows Bowl first, with allwright and Barron taking the new ball. Barroon began taking wickets soon after, removing both openers, as well as Johan on 48 later on, in a fantastic display of pace and accuracy that sends a loud message to the first team where he has been criminally underused as a bowler. O'loughlina and Baines bowled tightly, followed by D.cartledge and L. Jocelyn who strangled the run rate well, and when Mackenzie finished off the bowling the score had been kept well within range.
One of the of the all time great cricket teas followed, and the ice cold beers went down well, as englefield tried to win the game through enforced overeating/drinking, and the heavy stomachs resulted in an early wicket and a slow, but solid start with Sheppard and Cartledge building the perfect platform.
When Sheppard departed for 33 cartledge finally began opening up and reaching his 50.Ingram blasted a quickfire 30, but then O'loughlin and Allwright went cheaply leaving J.Cartledge and Mackenzie to guide the team home, with Mackenzie knocking off the winning runs with a stylish clip off his hip for 4.
Mackenzie spoke afterwards to the waiting reporters, and deflected the praise for his captaincy and all round good game, saying " This one was all about the team, Everyone contributed today. We were disciplined with both bat and ball, with some brilliant individual work by Barron and Cartledge just icing on the cake." Magnanimous stuff indeed.
