Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday XI v Mortimer West End on Sun 31 May 2015 at 2:00 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 171 runs

Match report New Era Dawns at St Sebs as Crows young bucks steal the show with a superb display, After Sykes smashes second century in successive appearances, with Cartledge again the glue that held it all together, scoring another 50.

a young MWE side took on a youthful Crows team at St sebs on sunday, and the Crows youth upstaged their ageing peers in the field with a dazzling display of bowling and fielding.

Mackenzie won the toss, and in a maverick decision decided to bat on a damp pitch in overcast conditions. Baines and Sheppard built a decent platform before both being dismissed in the 20s, Cartledge took over the anchor duties once again, but when pinch hitter Murray went cheaply, things looked as dark as the clouds overhead for the crows. Fortunately Mackenzie had hidden Sykes down the order, and whilst Cartledge singled his way to another 50 off about 25 overs, Sykes set about the youthful bowling, showing no mercy as he bludgeoned his way to his second ton (retired) in two sunday games. the score raced to 236 off the reduced overs, as the sporting dreams of several children were left trampled in the damp grass of St sebastians.

A magnificent feast of a tea followed, and yet again the older crows creaked under the extra weight gained as they took to the field. A short spell of bowling from openers Clarke and murray removed the openers, and then it was left to the youth to take over, as Liam(3w), Billy(2 catches) and Tom(2W) set about destroying the middle order. It was left to the ageing Mackenzie and CJ to tidy up the tail and the game was won.

Speaking to the gathered reporters after the game, Mackenzie was quick to heap praise on his young starlets. " They were great out there today. At no point was I worried about fielding such a young side today, if you're good enough, you're old enough, in my opinion. The youngsters are a pleasure to have in the team, and it was good to have some younger legs out there to take some pressure off the older players in the field. Young Jocelyn bowled a great spell, and it was nice to see him take a catch off his Dads bowling to seal the win. Coles was superb in the field again, those catches were never in doubt as soon as he put his name on them, and young Crocker had a great Debut, taking two wickets, and could have had more. The future of Crowthorne and Crown wood looks bright." It's hard to disagree with those words.
