Match report Heroic skipper gets off death bed to end run of 4 defeats in a terrifically tight tied game.

A fantastic game at the warfield memorial ground ended with both teams tied on 149, as a clearly ill Mackenzie, and a clearly hung over Cartledge played through the pain to get the job done.

Brundish and Golding opened, bowling brilliant spells with Brundish taking 3 wickets, and golding 2, for just 15 runs from his 7 overs. O'loughlin came on and bowled a frankly ludicrous spell of 5 overs, 4 maidens 1 wicket for 4 runs and when storey took a wicket Warfield were 80 for 8 and reeling. A combination of obstinate batting, and bad luck meant the number 9 & 10 put on another 69 runs by the end of the 40 overs leaving them on 149 for 8.

Dan Cartledge, who had arrived late due to being on tour and out till 5 A.M opened the batting with Tom Nash, and once again held the rest of the batting order together as he stubbornly plugged away, while yet again the partners came and went at the other end. O'loughlin and john cartledge both got in before they got out, and when Dan finally succumbed (after 3 wickets in 7 balls from Morris) things were looking shaky with 6 overs to go, 3 wickets in hand and 32 runs required. it was left to Mackenzie to see them home, needing 17 runs off 3 overs when he came to the crease and quickly bludgeoned 12 runs, while protecting the tail. When young adam Hawkes finally succumbed to the final ball of the 40th over, the scores were tied in a truly thrilling finish.

Speaking to the press after the game a pale and shaky Mackenzie only had time to dish out some praise for brundish, golding, o'loughlin and cartledge before he went for a well earned lie down.
