Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club League 3rd XI v Peppard Stoke Row 3 on Sat 14 Jun 2014 at 1:30 pm
Match was Drawn (losing draw)

Match report Another close game at Sunny St Sebastians finished in a losing draw. The result could have gone any of 3 ways up until the last over, however Monty and Man of the Match, Kieran Golding wisely chose to play safe and held out for the draw, just 11 runs behind the visitors.

We won the toss and put the visitors in, mainly so we could watch the football later, however it seemed to be a good decision as an excellent bowling performance by all left the visitors on 121-9 off their 45 overs. Kieran the pick, with 4 for 28 off his 10, but Monty 2-29, and John Cartledge 2 for 12 off 10, also chipped in. Andrew Bo Taylor, donned the whites for this rare appearance but turned back the years with an excellent diving catch, very sharp stumping, and an extremely funny run out attempt which left him injured. Also no byes conceded despite the express pace of myself, John Cartledge and Tony McDowell

After the tea break the run chase began, in our normal style leaving us 32 for 5 off 17 overs and looking in desperate trouble. Gordon Hawkes was looking in good form, crashing a couple of drives to the boundary before getting out to an awful delivery.

Myself and new boy Krishna managed to hang around for 13 overs before I tried a stupid run and failed miserably, only thing to do was carry on running straight to the pavilion with the score now a little better at 68-6. Krishna soon followed, as did John Cartledge. This brought Bo to the middle. He seemed in good nick but obviously suffering from a hard day in the field and a heavy day at lords the day before. He crashed an excellent boundary through mid wicket, and tried to repeat it, however the timbers where shattered and he had been bowled out by a 12 year old.

This brought Monty to the middle with 7 overs remaining, 28 needed to win, but only one wicket remaining. Excellent batting by both Kieran and Monty saw us thru to a well battled draw just 11 runs short of our target.

Time to enjoy the World cup on the new TV with some well deserved beers
