Match report
CROWS 3RDS LOSE NARROWLY IN CLOSE ENCOUNTER
It was nice to get a Sunny day and the opportunity to play some cricket. However, the British summer had left its effect on the pitch and it was very soft with uneven bounce to say the least. we were blessed with a great seam attack, unfortunately we were made to bat first, and the batting wasn't quite as good.
Runs were going to be hard to come by, and we managed 2 off the first 3 overs before Jules O'Loughlin had one pop up on him and the ball flew back gently to the bowler for a simple caught and bowled. This was the first of 3 ducks, as Alistair Warner-Rowley and Gordon Hawkes soon followed, clean bowled by the lively Jamie Stansfield without troubling the scorers. this left us reeling at 15 for 3 after 11 overs.
Raj Mann and Tom Nash put on 27 much needed runs, before Raj got bowled by the lightning pace of Veteran John Bargeant. Raj probably fell asleep whilst waiting for the ball to arrive, but he went for a respectable 13. By now Tom Nash was favouring the lofted drive over mid-on, however a trap was set an Tom fell for it. Top scorer of the day with 31.
Chris Jocelyn and Andy Baines managed to put on 18 more precious, hard grafted runs before the dodgy LBW decision which i won't go into. Chris went for 7, bringing Foxy Bingo to the crease. Foxy proceeded to give Bradfield some serious catching practice, and I must say they could have done better, dropping him twice before he popped one back to the bowler, however he did make double figures and added 23 with Bainsey, leaving us on 87-7 after 36 overs.
In the very next over, Bainsey faced the opening bowler, who rattled the stumps, but somehow the bails did not dislodge, unbelievable, but chewing gum does have its uses. However the very next ball the stumps where totally rearranged and he went back to the pavillion for a very respectable 24, followed quickly by Monty for 1. This left is at 93-9 with 7 overs to see out.
John Cartledge and Peter Clarke batted well with a few powerfull blows and blocks to take us to 114, before Kiwi tried to take a quick single and ended up getting run out. All out for 114.
After a nice tea, from Jackie Jocelyn, I had to give her a mention, as she contributed more than me today, we set about bowling Bradfield out. All was going well, with Jules bowling a nice pace and miserly line and Monty bowling a mix of tight accurate seam/swing bowling with the occasional head high beamer, wickets fell. 3 for Jules and 2 for Monty, leaving the visitors struggling at 45-5 after 17. Jules finished on 33-3, and Monty 22-2 off their 10 overs. Andy Baines took a key wicket, getting the opener caught behind by Chris Foxon, and John Cartledge, bowling his first ball since September bowled out their wicketkeeper in his first over. Unfortunately catches were dropped, mainly by myself and our chance was lost. The visitors winning with 9 overs to spare
Shame we couldn't win, but its nice to get a game in.
