Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Thames Valley Ramblers on Sun 13 Jul 2014 at 1 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 137 runs
Match report
SHAW AND AVRILI PUNISH TVR AS SKIPPER MACKENZIE REDEEMS PREVIOUS LOSSES.
Dave Shaw SMACKED a career best 74 and Villy Avrili hit a trademark 59 not out as Sunday Crows brushed Thames Valley Ramblers aside in a 140-run victory procession at a Sun drenched St Sebastians. There were also 3 wickets each for left arm duo Kieron Golding and Dan Partridge. Full report and score to follow..........
Ramblers Rocked by Rollicking Run-fest, then Reply with Really Rubbish Run-chase
Mackenzie returned to the fold as sunday stand in skipper, Vs touring team Thames Valley Ramblers, hoping to put his last defeat behind him.
Losing the toss the Crows were put into bat, despite the ramblers having two players who wouldnt turn up for an hour or more.
Shaw and the colonel went out to open and treated the crowd to a dazzling display shot making, before Cluett was out, cutting hard to point where it somehow stuck in the fielders hands.
Shaw, who had been dropped early on, opened up, and the runs continued to flow. he was ably assisted by Knox and Patrick Golding who played nice cameos, before W.Avrilli came to the crease in his first, and possibly last game of the season and carried on with the hard hitting demolition of the opposition bowlers. Dave finally succumbed after scoring a fantastic 60 odd, taking him to the head of the sunday batting table.
The skipper came, and went quickly, spooning a catch to point, as did partridge who was unlucky, cutting a swift delivery into his stumps. But that only served to bring A. Baines to the crease and he(18 n.o) and Avrilli pushed on to take the score to 237 at the end, with Will finishing on 59 n.o.
The teams went off to an award winning and massive tea, supplied by partridge, and returned to the field groaning with full bellies.
The Crows opened up with the twin seam attack of M.Millar and K.Golding, with Millar bowling from the unfamiliar pavilion end. His 6 overs went for very few runs, and he beat the bat with every other ball, and was unlucky with 2 or three going between the slip fielders.
It was Golding from the tennis court end that did the damage, bowling quickly and accurately on a nice length. The TVR openers couldnt cope with the ball going across them at speed, and three of them fell in Goldings very tidy spell. Mackenzie changed it up, fancying his spinners on a turning wicket. Big Colin in his first game of the season bowled very well, strangling the runs at one end, while partridge, fresh from his 5 wickets on saturday, did the damage again at the other end, taking 3 to finish the weekend with figures of 8 wickets for 17 runs.
Another bowling change brought Knox on, taking 2 wickets for 5 in his two overs, while the skipper came on and bowled tidily from the other end, taking another wicket.
Pat Golding came on for one at the finish and removed the last batsmen, leaving TVR 140 ish runs short. They spent much of the post game taking selfies next to the scoreboard that documented the drubbing they had taken.
it was a great game, despite the poor opposition, and yet again the game of cricket was the real winner here.
