Eversley v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Mon 05 May 2014 at 1 pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
CCWCC hold their nerve to win first historic match.
The inaugral Crowthorne and Crown Wood CC match got underway at Eversley. Crows won the toss and elected to bowl, this looked to be a sound decision with a couple of early wickets. Allwright was steaming in made history by getting the first wicket for the club with a dirty long hop that was bottom edged onto the stumps! Another wicket soon followed with a good catch by Gordon Hawkes off the bowling of Allwright. Eversley then put on a good partnership which Monty eventually broke. The wickets then started to come sooner with solid bowling from Brendy' Frenzy' MacKenzie and Alex 'Psycho' Sykes. The tail was rapidly cleaned up by Partridge and Hawkes, all out for 162.
Brendy then savoured a favourable tea, pushing for it to be a 9 only to then downgrade it to 7.5 on the forum!!
Dave and Allwright went out to bat, and made (well Dave did) an explosive start. Chris stood at the other end while Dave smashed his way to 50 in just 8 overs, hitting 4 sixes. Sadly it took Eversley 10 overs to work out that they needed all their fielders at cow corner for Dave, fooled into misplacing the field by his 'cover drive' nickname on his shirt. Leachy then came in and smashed his maiden 50, a well deserved accolade for one of the teams top all rounders. Then came a little bit of a wobble, Psycho lived up to his nickname after being given out LBW and there were ducks for Hardy and pre season duck prize favourite Tom Huelin. Partridge then came in to steady the ship and ended up 24 not out, with skipper RP Hester seeing out the last few balls to secure the first victory for the newly formed team.
When interviewed by Sky Sports, skipper Hester said: 'It was a great performance from the lads, I was really proud of them today. We kept going when under the cosh and bowled them out cheaply in the end. It was a bit shaky batting at the end, but I always knew we had the quality and depth in our team to see us home. It's a great start to the season but no one is getting carried away. We go to Bagshot with some scores to settle, but we're under no illusions it'll be a tough game. The lads will be focused and ready for the weekend'.
