Match report Crows cruise to win in sunny encounter



On a beautiful summer’s evening, Crows won the toss, and opened up with a pair of Ants. The ball was soon whistling to the boundary and Ant Cluett was soon back in the hutch with his 25. Retirements also from Nick M and the Judge and a big total was on the cards. Enter Jimmy and Rich. Like limpets clinging to a rock they were not to be moved by the bowlers, or each other’s calling and a few tense overs followed with ‘It’s not a test match’ and ‘Get on with it’ ringing around the New Ground arena. Just when Adam thought his time had come for a final ball heave into the trees, the umpires saw him coming, called a 5 ball over and the innings ended with Adam still walking out. 166 was the final total.



The crows rolled out some big guns in the opening overs and soon had a few batsmen back in the pavilion with Will taking some good catches and a cheeky bowled round the legs from Jeff Cluett. Behind the run rate from the off, there were a couple of dangerous batsmen who retired and if the skipper hadn’t attempted a rather foolish one handed catch (that he shelled) we may have been in the pub sooner. Sean-O produced a spectacular catch, convincing the entire crowd that he was fast asleep until the ball was about 6 ft away before waking up and clinging on. Good bluff, we all bought it. Finally it left Adam to deal the coup-de-gras with an exocet of a direct hit to run out their main run scorer and that just left an Avrili special with Will catching behind the wicket off brother Ant’s bowling. A lovely evening, Crows ending up winning by 60 runs.
