Match report
Crows Crushed in Crown wood Catastrophe
The 20/20 midweek Crows lost in shambolic fashion last night away at crown woods st sebastians ground, in what has been dubbed "The Ravenswood El Classico" by many.
Bowling first, as thunder rumbled all around them, on what looked a decent enough batting track Crowthorne seemed to be doing well, with wickets falling at regular intervals, and not too many 4s and 6s going to the boundary.
Mackenzie was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 3 for 22 from his two overs( 2 for two off the 1st), as well as a catch, and a run out in the field.
Despite M nearly killing a teenage boy with a high velocity beamer, the game was played in a great spirit, with plenty of banter from both teams.
It looked like Crowthorne had kept Crown Wood to a lowish total when the rain started to fall in the last over, and they walked off, happy with their work.
The heavens truly opened at the break, with rain still sheeting down biblically after 20 minutes. With time aproaching 8 pm half the Crows team decided there would be no further play, and went home.
Then suddenly, the clouds cleared and the rain stopped. The crown wood boys were very keen to get back out, no doubt spurred on by half the opposition team not seeming to fancy the battle.
The remaining Crows hurriedly put their whites back on, and rushed out to bat.
The rain had injected real life back into the track, and the crown wood boys now had the benefit of movement off the pitch, as well as movement in the air from the heavy overhead conditions, and they made the most of it, with great spells from the openers, who bowled tightly and agressively. wickets fell with great regularity, while the runs came in 1s and 2s.
When the Crows skipper and Ant Avrilli came to the crease, it seemed like they had finally come to terms with the conditions. No wickets fell for a couple of overs, and the ball was going to the boundary, but they too succumbed, eventually skying catches to the waiting field.
Mackenzie tried to dig in and make a game of it, but his luck ran out on 9 as he dragged one back on to his stumps when attempting to cut a ball that was too close to him, and with that all hope was gone.
despite recruiting two spectators to play at the death they fell well short of the duckworth lewis adjusted total.
dejected and damp the crows left the field, while crown wood celebrated their well deserved victory. The ravensood ashes will stay at st sebastians till next summer.
