West Reading 3 v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 31 Aug 2013 at 1:00
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 229 runs
Match report
Nash arrives just in British Summer Time to hit first century for the club, as The Judge takes 5-for to reduce West Reading to 86ao, and complete the Crows 229 run win to end the season in emphatic style.
Sheppard and Nash strolled out to open the batting, having forced West Reading to forfeit the toss for not turning up. It was then 22 overs before one of them came back in. A brilliant opening partnership of 188 saw Sheppard get his 50 first in the 11th over, soon followed by Nash in the 13th.
The skipper hit his personal best of 84 before being bowled. O'Loughlin went out for 26 off 8 overs, whilst Nash continued. Then Stent replaced O'Loughlin to join Nash in the middle for his first century for the club.
A superb innings by Nash. He fell shortly after for 101. Avrili was the number 5 batsman, and him and Stent put on a quick 50 partnership, taking Stent to 58, before the skipper called them in. Crows declaring on 315 for 3 off 39 overs.
The Crows took to the field in great spirits, but knew the job was only half done. However, the Crows were all fired up, hoping to get home early to freshen up for the evening's season celebrating festivities. They duly completed this mission.
It was in only the 4th over when The Judge took the first wicket. Soon followed by Monty taking the 2nd. Then the Judge the 3rd, and Monty the 4th. It was clear by now that these 2 bowlers were going head to head. The skipper knew this, the fielders knew this, and the bowlers rose to the challenge. Who was going to get the 5-for.
Monty took the next 2. They'd now stopped relying on their field, clean bowling all that West Reading could send out. The pressure was on The Judge, and he took it on and threw down a double wicket maiden. It was 4 a piece.
The fielders were all now calling for a bowling change, but the skipper resisted the tempting option.
Monty had the first over to try get the 5-for. The chance came, the ball in the air, the diving Avrili .... or should I say the diving Wellington old boy. The chance suspiciously went down, Monty was fuming, Avrili and O'Loughlin were exchanging money and high 5-ing.
So, the Judge had the chance. Dot, dot, dot, bang!!! Jubilation, The Judge running down the wicket, the stumps had been demolished, and The Judge had the 5-for. His first ever. Great scenes, the Crows all mobbed O'Loughlin.
A great end and a truly emphatic win for Crows 2. A brilliant end to a top first season. What better way to head off for drinks and late night celebrations.
