Match report Crowthorne maintained their slim lead at the top of division 2 with a winning draw at home to Mortimer West End 2nd team.

Muhammad Shakeel Arshad was the star for Crowthorne as he hit a brutal 135 at the sun-baked Wellington College ground before falling to an excellent John Cumner catch with the score on 220. Ant Avrili took on the batting baton, hitting his maiden 50 before Crows declared on 272-6 after 42 overs.

West End's run chase started in disastrous fashion as they lost 3 wickets for just 30 runs. Crowthorne were sniffing their 8th win of the season but Mortimer captain Neil Storkey showed fine resistance with a knock of 66 before his unfortunate run-out.

Julian O'Loughlin and Mike Chalmers picked up 3 wickets apiece for Crows as Mortimer's thoughts turned to surviving for the draw rather than chasing the imposing target. John Gott, returning for his first game this year, used all his experience and doggedness to shepherd the West End tail through to the close for a hard earned draw.
