Match report CLASSY CLUETT KEEPS CROWS CAWING

Div 2 – Crows 1st XI 199/6 beat MWE 2nd XI 197/4 by 4 Wickets.

A depleted Crowthorne 1st XI continued their winning start to the season with a 4 wicket win over Mortimer West End. In damp conditions, West End posted a competitive total of 197-4 with skipper Neil Storkey making 68 not out and Abrar Pewekar hitting 51.

In reply Crows made a bright start with Shakeel Arshad and Ant Cluett both defying the conditions. Arshad made 57 and Cluett 26 before their departures caused a mini collapse, leaving Crows on 109/5 having been 80/0. At this point West End sniffed victory, but as the pitch got dryer into the evening as the rain passed and the sun came out, Jeff Cluett had other ideas and he hit a well-paced 67 not out including several big 6’s to steer the Crows past the post with 5 overs to spare.

The Crows have won both of their fixtures so far and take on Shinfield this week. Jeff Cluett was in reflective mood “This was a “backs to the wall” performance from the team today. We had a few regulars missing so it was important we performed. Whilst I’m pleased with my innings the most important thing was to get us over the line.”
