Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Lost by 64 runs

Match report 85 over match won by Theale & Tilehurst CC

The forecast rain stayed away so Crows headed to Theale & Tilehurst for the first time in a few years. The Crows skipper was put on the back foot right from the off as the opposition captain declared a baffling array of rules just as the coin was in the air, and a bamboozled Sheppard said the first thing that came into his head; Crowthorne would have a bowl.

Monty Miller opened the bowling and immediatley swung the new ball with great accuracy, taking the T&T openers for 0 runs apiece. Mike Chalmers was aggresive from the other end and the opposition were soon 4 down with not a lot on the board. Wigmore showed some resisitance with a useful 37 before being bowled by the pacey Patel, the same bowler soon claimed Why? thanks to a 'Matrix like' reaction catch from the skipper behind the stumps.

Crows' thoughts of an early tea were put to bed by the partnership of Cooke and Osborn. It was the unfortunate O'Loughlin and Garrett who took the brunt of the punishment during this 100+ run partnership, much to the disgust of Jules who declared Osborn to be the most distasteful cricketer he had ever faced. This is not too say that he wasn't perfectly friendly; but with his too small trousers precariously affixed half way down his ample arse, and every shot a dirty slog just out of reach of a fielder, he was not a player of Gentleman Jules' persuasion.

Osborn was finally brought down for 63 by a sharp stumping off the bowling of Cluett, and T&T's innings was closed at a seemingly arbitary 199/7 after 43 overs.

After a respectable if conventional tea which rated a 6.5 on the MacKenzie scale, Crows opened up with the father & son duo Tony and Ricky McDowell. The opening bowlers were as tight as Osborn's flannels, with Acomb reeling off 4 maidens on the trot and byes comfortably top scoring. The fall of McDowell snr brought Cluett (A) to the crease and the scoring picked up a bit, with another excellect innings from the rookie. Support came from Jules and Crows were back on track for a possible victory, but the fall of Cluett saw a Crows trademark middle order collapse to match any seen previously, complete with scrambled padding up and frantic umpire swapping as first Chalmers fell for 2 then Garrett and Sheppard faced around 4 balls between them for no runs.

Harry Stent restored order for a while as Crows' ambitions had firmly reset themsleves towards a draw, but he fell to a sharp caught behind of the bowling of Why? and Crows inevitable fate was sealed with a golden duck for number 11 Clarke, given out bat before wicket by McDowell jnr who clearly had eyes on the pub.
