Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Sunday XI v Welford Park on Sun 01 Jul 2012 at 2:00
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 12 runs
Match report
Crowthorne welcomed Welford Park to the New Ground for the first time, and came out on top in a very tense finish.
Crows lost the toss, but were happy to bat first. They set a great total of 206, which turned out to be just enough. Ant and Joe opened the batting and got off to a flying start, putting on a partnership of 64. It built a good foundation, as Tom Nash came in and batted superbly to score a 51 before being run out. A well deserved baggy green. There were good contributions from Simon Sheppard, Judge Jules, Sean Clarke and a speedy 23 on his return to the fold from Todd 'Top Gun' Saunders.
Jules and Mike opened the bowling and restricted the openers well, forcing them to play crazy shots just to get anything. Mike was unlucky to not get any wickets in what was an excellent spell. Jules got 1 wicket which was an edge and a good catch behind the stumps from the temporarily blinded Shilts who just threw his gloves at it and somehow the ball stuck in there. Dan then bowled well and got 3 quick wickets which looked to take the game beyond Welford. But they continued to bat doggedly and kept in touch. Joe took a couple of wickets to surely put the game out of reach, but they kept plugging away and left themselves needing 13 off 6 balls. As darkness started to fall the captain called a mothers meeting on field positions, and Ant then promptly took the last wicket with the first delivery of the over to secure a 12 run victory.
This left the Crows with a clean sweep of victories from the weeks matches, with much to celebrate and look forward to as the season progresses. Notable performances were Ant Cluett with the bat and ball, as well as 4 excellent wickets from 'Dam Patridge'. Man of the match has to go to Tom Nash for his excellent half century, he looks a truly great addition to the club. Even with his rogue Kent Cricket League clothing in the team photo, need to get on the Romida website Tom!
