Farley Hill v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Midweek XI on Wed 20 Jun 2012 at 6:00
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 84 runs
Match report
Crows ran out comfortable victors over Farley Hill with a solid bowling performance. Posting 130 with the bat, Farley Hill never looked like they'd make the challenge. Crows bowlers all getting a wicket in a great 12 over spell.
Skipper O'Loughlin won the toss and elected to bat on the lovely field of Farley Hill. However, the dodgy bounce almost undid the Crows.
Hill and Will Avrili opened the batting, and looked solid out there with some sweet strokes. Sidders having not batted for a year looked like he'd never left the crease. Unfortunately he fell to the low bounce and was walking back to the pavilion in the 4th over.
In came Davies and he soon looked comfortable. Sweetly placing his shots to run 12 of his 30 in singles. His other 18 including 2 sixes and a four. He put on a quick 20 with Will, then a short partnership with Attree was followed by the important partnership of 38 with Elrick.
Retiring on 25, Davies left it for the lower order to add some runs. O'Loughlin, Leach, Shaw and Ant Avrili all had brief spells. Each got a boundary, with Tim hitting a huge 6 then remembering thats where he'd parked his car.
Carson came in for a short spell at the end, hitting 1 not out, but concentrating on giving the returning Davies more balls. Davies only managed another 5 before being caught out.
Crows then all ran off to move their cars from cow corner, which proved to be unnecessary, as Farley Hill struggled to find the boundary.
Skipper opened the bowling with pace, producing 2 tight overs and taking the number 2 batsman. Ant at the other end proved to be the tightest of the bowlers, taking a wicket maiden with a neat caught and bowled, and only going for 1 in the first over.
The change of bowling proved costly, with Jimmy following on his expensive display from Sunday. Though to be fair, most of the runs were wides (2 runs per wide, anything down leg was wide) and only about 2 runs coming off the bat. To try to keep it straight, Jimmy resorted to slower and slower bowling, which paid off with his wicket of the number 4 batsman. So slow, he completely missed it, and it floated on to off stump.
Leach at the other end meanwhile was keeping the tight bowling going. His first wicket of two bounced so low an ant ducked, and the batsman's off stump fell.
On came Elrick and Davies to bowl, and they wrapped up the game. Elrick took an impressive 4 for 13, unfortunately bowling a no ball on his hat-trick ball. Davies took the last wicket with his last ball of his 2 overs, only going for 5 runs.
Impressive stat - every bowler got at least 1 wicket.
Great game for the Crows, solid performance in the field, though they were rarely troubled.
