Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 5 Wickets

Match report CROWS DEFEAT WEST READING BY 5 WICKETS

Crows made it 3 wins out of 4 League games with a 5-wicket win over West Reading at Reading University on Saturday.

Winning the toss, Crows elected to Bowl first and try to restrict West Reading to a managable total. This plan looked to have paid immediate dividends as skipper Rosss Chalmers took 2 early wickets to leave the hosts on 9-2.

At the other end, Mehul Patel was bowling with good pace and the Crows were on the ascendency. However, a dogged partnership between Raja and Ali looked to swing the game in WR's favour.

This was broken when Ant Cluett ran out Ali from point for 33. This mixup seemed to get to WR and soon the Crows were back on the up with Dan Partridge and Joe Davies bowling in tandem and put the brakes on West Reading's progress.

Partridge proved to be paritcularly tricky with several chnaces and half-chances coming off his spell. He got his rewards though when Barron snaffled a tough chance behind the pegs off the left-handed Mubin Ahmed. He then had Mohammed trapped LBW with a ball that straightened on leg stump.

Autstralian leg-spinner Davies was plugging away at the other end and got his rewards, picking up 2 wickets of his own. First trapping opener Raja lbw then clean bowling Faisal Aslam soon after.

Crows kind of lost their way a bit after that with a flurry of runs from the tail-enders but Chalmers returned with Ant Cluett at the other end to clean up the tail and give Crows maximum bowling points. Chalmers finished with 4 wickets.

Set 197 to win in glum conditions, The Crows got off to a solid start with Ant Cluett and Richard Barron both looking in good nick. Barron made 25 and Cluett reached 18 before both perished. Joe Davies hit a classy-looking 33 befroe he joined the openers back in the hutch.

The mainstay of the Crows innings though, was Jeff Cluett who struck a patient 60, his first half-century for the club to guide Crows to within touching distance of their target.

He was ably supported by Mehul Patel who hit a typically attacking 31 and Micky Gopie who rotated the strike well to see the Crows home.

Crows triumphed by 5 wickets with a handful of overs to spare.
