Peppard 2 v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Saturday 1st XI on Sat 26 May 2012 at 1:30
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 130 runs
Match report
DAVIES AND CLUETT UNLIMITED – SPECIALISTS IN RUN MAKING
Crowthorne bounced back from their disappointing loss at Waltham St Lawrence the previous week with an emphatic 130 run triumph at a sun-soaked Peppard on Saturday.
Batting first on a good track, Crows made a solid start with Simon Sheppard and Any Cluett building a good platform before Sheppard fell to a wonder catch at slip from Chard.
Cluett held firm and was well supported by Ricky McDowell as the Crows ticked along nicely. However it was his partnership with Joe Davies that took the game away from Peppard. Davies, playing only his 3rd game for the Crows, stroked a chanceless 76 whilst Cluett accumulated runs on his way to a tasty 69. With a few overs left, Mike Chalmers came in and blasted a quickfire 31 not out off 12 balls to push the Crows to 241-7 and gave Peppard a tough total to chase.
Crows came out firing after tea with Mehul Patel and Steve Northall bowling with pace and purpose with the new ball. Patel clean bowled Roy Walker and trapped Townsin leg before wicket to really put the pressure on Peppard.
At the other end Northall tormented Kumar with a series of tight overs in which Kumar found scoring shots few and far between. Northall ended wicketless but gave a great demonstration of new ball bowling.
With Peppard falling behind the run rate, Crows turned the screws even tighter with Luke Jouanides claiming 3 wickets, the pick of which was a superb catch at point from Cluett.
With Peppard looking like they would be happy to bat out for a draw, Crows captain Ross Chalmers turned to his 3-pronged slow bowling attack. At one end Dan Partridge and Joe Davies dried the runs up and built pressure to allow Anthony Cluett to run through the lower order on his way to a maiden 5 wicket haul for the club.
Peppard were eventually all out for 112 and the Crows earned a maximum point victory by a large margin 130 runs.
Skipper Ross Chalmers said “There’s a real buzz around our club at the moment. We still have some strong players to come into this group and improve us further still. But the guys who played this week all gave a very good account of themselves. All 11 played their part in this win.
“Ant Cluett has been a vital addition to the club this year and weighed in with runs and wickets again. In Joe Davies we have got ourselves a very good young player who will get better and better as he gets used to English Cricket.”
“Hopefully we can build on this performance in the coming weeks. We have a large pool of players to pick from which is a great position to be in”
