Waltham St. Lawrence v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Saturday 1st XI on Sat 19 May 2012 at 1:30
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Crowthorne went into this match away at Waltham St Lawrence hoping to build on last week's comfortable win in the west end of Mortimer. Life looked comfortable for the Crows as opener Sheppard shouldered arms to the first two balls of the match, things went downhill from the moment he left the third ball well alone only to see it crash into the top of off stump. Micky Gopie at least offered a stroke but the result was much the same as his off stump tumbled for a golden duck and Crows found themselves two down with no score on the board.

The runs finally caught up with the wickets in the fourth over, but Northall (S) and Cluett (A) were finding scoring hard going on the huge lush Waltham field. After 8 hard fought runs, Northall offered a chance to mid-off which Riaz duly juggled and held; McDowell and young Davies came and went with little ado and Crowthorne were 5 down for 27 and wondering where the next run would come from.

The answer to the above was the bat of Jeffrey Cluett, who got the scoreboard moving with plenty of hard hit 2s which would have been 4's on any other ground, as well as an extraordinary 6 deep into the bushes at cow corner. Meanwhile at the other end brother Anthony was eking out runs and holding firm until a muted LBW appeal was answered in the affirmative, and he was gone for 19 off 25 overs.

A captain's innings of 28 from Ross Chalmers helped Crows towards some sort of respectability before both he and Jeff (44) fell in quick succession in the 44th over as they pursued an additional batting point. Beavis Jouanides made his mark on the duck leaderboard, leaving debutant Elsey on 0 without facing a ball.

Crows bowled gamely with both Chalmers and Ant Cluett picking up 2 wickets apiece; Northall effected a cheeky run-out when everyone else was appealing for an LBW, but 116 was not enough against a talented Waltham side who are among the contenders for promotion this year.
