Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Sunday XI v Sandhurst on Sun 17 Jun 2012 at 1:30
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 93 runs
Match report
CROWTHORNE CRUSH SANDHURST TO RETAIN THE A3095 ASHES!
Finally a bright and blustery day for some cricket, and the old enemies locked horns at the New Ground. On a decent looking track, the Crows skipper won the toss for the 4th time this season and the decision to bat looked to be paying dividends. The Cluett brothers (Ant & Mike) went out to open, and put on a partnership of 80. The Sandhurst bowlers didn't have a 'clu' how to get the lefties out, so resorted to criticising their technique, so Mike promptly smacked it for 4! Mike sportingly walked on 26 after edging to the keeper, and in came Tom Nash making his home debut. He showed his cricketing prowess and experience by staying calm and taking the chances as they came, he ended up with a well earned 40. Saviour added some useful runs, as did Sean and Brendy at the death. Ant Cluett batted superbly, and looked to be about to bat the whole innings when he was out stumped in the last over for 99. A fantastic effort, and I'm sure he'll be joining the list of centurions before the season is over. Crows ended 221-4, which was a daunting target to chase.
Sandhurst came out to bat, knowing that they didn't have much strength in depth and were chasing nearly 6 an over. The field was set to choke the run rate, and after 2 overs the pressure paid off. Amid chirps from the field that the run rate was climbing both Azzakea and Monty got a wicket by clean bowling the 2 league batsmen. Azza then got another with a dubious LBW call, but it left Sandhurst with a mountain to climb. Pharo and Honey (are these real names?)offered some resistance, but were got out in the end by nagging bowling from Saviour and Brendy. Seano got his bowling figures off to a nice start with some teasing deliveries, and was rewarded with a wicket. Dan was brought on to wrap up the tail, and only ended up bowling 1 over and took a wicket. The Frenzy was busy at the other end wrapping up the tail instead. He skilfully lured the batsmen in with consecutive wide deliveries, and then surprised them with the straight one! He ended up with his best figures of 3-12, and against Sandhurst!
A fantastic team performance, the energy in the field was quite brilliant and a 93 run win was well deserved and a true reflection of the match. Man of the match goes to Ant Cluett for his excellent batting performance and a spectacular catch.
