Match report YEAR-LONG UNBEATEN RUN ENDED BY VETERANS IN 20-OVER THRILLER

A cracking match at a cracking venue, interspersed with a cracking tea of scones, cream and jam!

Sadly the Sunday Crows lost their 365 (as it was a leap year) day unbeaten run since 8th May 2011 in dramatic circumstances. The weather was a major adversary, and the hosts did well to put a fixture on, which was a reduced 20 overs a side match. The Crows won the toss and elected to bat on the artificial pitch. They started slugglishly, getting to 8 after 7 overs. Cookham Dean opened with their ex-Berkshire County bowler and M and Saviour just couldn't get him away despite their best efforts. All looked lost when reduced overs specialist batsman Dave Shaw was clean bowled whislt trying to hook one across the county line into Marlow. Then came the excellent partnership of Tim Leach and Mike Cluett, who started smacking it about and took the game to the veterans, both earning a place on the 6 hitting board along the way. Further 'Frenzied' batting helped the Crows to a total of 83, which seemed like something that could be defended, and a great total after the start we had.

Monty and M started the bowling well, and left Cookham Dean a lot to do after their spells which slowed the run rate. Unfortunately the mole eyed Shilts behind the stumps lost a couple of Ms fast ones in the backdrop which skirted away for 4 byes a piece, which proved costly. All the bowlers chipped in with good spells, Mike Cluett taking 2 wickets, which was aided by a stunning 1 handed catch from Monty. The veterans of Cookham Dean will be looking to poach him after that one. With 4 overs left Cookham Dean needed less than 20 to win, and a Crows victory seemed unlikey. The boys kept their tails up and worked hard in the field to take it down to the last over with good bowling from Saviour and Ant. They needed 3 off the last over, and 2 LBWs in a row from Ant looked to have tipped the match in the Crows favour. With 2 balls to go they needed 2 to win. They took a single to tie the game with 1 ball left. Everyone steadied their nerves, but sadly the batsman smashed it away for 4 to give Cookham Dean a thrilling 1 wicket victory.

A fantastic all round team display, particularly in the face of adversity to come back the way we did. Many positives to take into the next few matches, and finally everyone was able to get a bit of match time in.

Many great contributions and contenders for Man of the Match, but with figues of 2 for 3, and a 28 not out Mike Cluett was the pick of the bunch.
