Match report Crowthorne's title hopes were dealt a massive blow as they fell to a narrow defeat at Bradfield.

Crows skipper Pete Northall opted to bat first in damp conditions, knowing this was the best way to secure the maximum points required to maintain their title charge.

Stoic opening batsman Dean Timms anchored the first half of Crowthorne's innings well, accumulating 25 runs and allowing Northall brothers Pete (45) Steve (43) to attack the Bradfield bowlers from the other end; a useful contribution from Robin Stent (25) meant the Crows posted an under par but competitive 187 all out, with Bradfield pair Dave North and Richard Lafford taking 9 wickets between them.

Bradfield's run chase was led by captain Alastair Howell, who having been dropped at second slip on 0, went on to post 51 before finally losing his off stump to swing bowler Monty Miller. It was left to Bradfield youngster Alex Brunwin on his first team debut to see his side home; having rode his luck early on, the 15 year old settled down to end up 50 not out. 4 wickets for pace-man Ross Chalmers were not enough as Bradfield reached there target with 8 wickets down and one over to spare.

Disappointed Crows skipper Pete Northall said "All our top six batsmen got good starts, but it's disappointing no-one could go on and bat Bradfield out of the game. So often this season our bowlers have saved us, but today the consistency wasn't there to put Bradfield under sustained pressure. On the day, they deserved their victory."
