Waltham St Lawrence v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Saturday 1st XI on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 1:30
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 102 Runs
Match report
The title race was blown wide open after leaders Mortimer lost and promotion rivals Crowthorne and South East Reading both picked up important victories.
Mortimer, who had a healthy lead at the top of the table at the start of play, slumped to a 72-run defeat to Sonning 3rd.
Batting first, Sonning struggled to reach 155, but that proved enough as Mortimer crashed to 83 all out.
A fine team effort saw Crowthorne beat Waltham St Lawrence by 102 runs in their on back yard.
Winning the toss, skipper Pete Northall elected to bat, but Crows slumped to 65-6 with the top order falling to some good bowling and sharp catching.
With Crows in deep trouble a fine partnership of 101 between Richard Barron (82) and Dan Partridge (35) saw Crows post a respectable total of 180 on a slightly two-paced pitch.
Waltham got off to a good start in their run chase, with skipper Paul Gearing leading the way with an early flurry of boundaries until Andy Taylor made good ground to take a sharp catch, giving John Cole a deserved wicket.
At the other end, Aran Long rolled back the years with a vintage display of miserly bowling, taking 4-27.
Cole himself was also in the wickets, taking 4-49.
With eight wickets down, Waltham tried to dig in, but Partridge wrapped the match up with a double wicket maiden off his solitary over of left-arm bowling.
Skipper Pete Northall was delighted with the result.
“After the start we made with the bat, to post 180 is a great achievement,” he said.
“Richard Barron is in good form and his innings really got us there. His century partnership with Dan Partridge was vital for us. We then came out and bowled and fielded well, took our catches and fully deserved the win.”
