Dear all,
It is with deep regret and sadness that I have to announce that the Adrian Chatters 6-a-side Tournament scheduled for this Sunday has had to be postponed..
This is not a decision that has been taken lightly. In fact we have been paining over the decision for a couple of days – trying to make a decision that is right. On Wednesday the situation was extremely bleak with the “Derby A” Square under water and the likelihood of the pitches being able to be prepared very slim. However Wellington College Ground staff have pulled off a miracle on our behalf to make us some pitches. However the condition of these pitches is described as “not great”. This will only get worse with every subsequent drop of rain that falls.
Sadly though, the weather forecast is still very bad and constantly changing. At very best the weather on Sunday will be dark, damp and cool. I’m sure even the most hardened cricketers and eternal optimists like me, will accept that this is not ideal for a Family fun day let alone an all day cricket tournament..
With the risk of rain all afternoon on Sunday, as well as the continued risk of rain in the interim between now and then, we have had to make the unfortunate decision to postpone before we incurred any more significant costs (Food and Drink mainly). Also we are giving people that are travelling from afar the best chance of making alternative plans.
No-one is more disappointed than me that this is off. We’ve done everything possible to put on a great event, but we have to accept defeat on this occasion.
The Committee will meet in the next couple of days and discuss the feasibility of re-scheduling this event to later in the “summer”. As ever Crowthorne Cricket Club is entirely committed to putting this event on each year in memory of Adie and will do everything we possibly can to re-schedule.
In the meantime we will still be holding the prize raffle. We urge everyone to buy as many tickets as possible for this. There is a fantastic list of prizes and we are hoping to raise as much money as we can for Myeloma UK. We will delay the drawing of the raffle for a couple of weeks to give everyone a chance to buy tickets. Please dig deep for this great cause. Tickets will be on sale from myself and other committee members at all practice and matches for next 2 weeks. I’ll send separate mail with full details later.
I’d like to give my personal thanks to everyone who has once again pulled together behind the scenes to organize what would have been a terrific day. The offers of help were plentiful as ever and some of the raffle prize donations were staggeringly generous. On top of that we had unprecedented number of current Crows players available and could have filled 2 Old Boys teams too. With the progress we have made as a club this year it would have been a great day with plenty of friends (old and new) sharing it with us.
Any questions, comments etc, please feel free to give me a call,
Kindest regards,
Dan Partridge,
