Crows below par batting performance but fight in narrow loss

Badly timed heavy rain saw the 1st XI match delayed by 1hr 20 mins as we waited for the St.Sebs wicket to dry against BCS. BCS bowled first. Last week's man of the match Ant Cluett took the field with the returning Marv Vogel. Marv didn't last long unfortunately, edging to the juggling keeper early doors. DC started his innings briskly with some lovely shots, and avoided some sharply rearing deliveries on a drying pitch. After surviving one chance, DC was then taken low by the keeper. Captain Inspirational didn't last long, with the slow pitch doing for him. Mike Brundish played some nice shots but some quick wickets to the spinners, including losing Ant who had played a lovely innings, slowed the innings down. The tail put on a few runs to drag the total to 121 all out which we all thought may be 30 runs too few.

It proved so, but the 1st XI did fight, and had we held some important catches we might have put more pressure on BCS. Sin got the early breakthrough, followed by Jeff, bowling as accurately as ever. BCS were intent to go aerial and we let them off three or four times, one in particular by this correspondent being a sitter :(. BCS progressed to 50 quickly, then Brundish took a leaping catch off young Emes to give everyone hope. The BCS batsman who scored a 50 then walked past an Ant Cluett delivery to be stumped and suddenly a match was on! But we never had quite enough runs. Mentions to all the bowlers: Crinnerz bowled a nice spell with good shape, including one beautiful bowled wicket ball; Emes a good comeback from an expensive first over; Sin bowled two very different spells but both economical; and both Cluetts bowled impressively. BCS only had 2 overs of their 30 left but won on 125-7.
